How Do Customers Redeem Points for Donations?

Overview

If a shopper chooses to redeem their reward points for donations, they will be met with the redeem points modal. When viewing the redeem points modal, the shopper will see a confirmation of the donation amount and the selected cause/nonprofit that will benefit from the donation.

As a retailer using the ShoppingGives app, you have three different settings that determine how your customers are able to interact with your impact strategy. These settings are the preference of your brand and how you choose to give back, whether you have the cause search turned on or off and/or if you have a default cause set. The following steps will lay out the customer experience based on each possible setting. 

 

Selecting a Cause without a Default

1) The customer will select the points they wish to redeem. 

2) The customer will then need to select a cause.

3) After the customer selects a cause and if they choose to confirm the donation amount and the cause selection, they can click Confirm.

 

 

Selecting a Cause with a Default

1) The customer will select the points they wish to redeem.

2) Since a default cause is activated, the customer will be taken immediately to the confirmation screen to confirm the donation amount and the selected nonprofit/cause.

  • The customer will have the option to change the cause by selecting “Change Cause”. 
  • If the customer chooses to update the cause, they will be taken back to the cause selection modal.

3) The customer will then select their cause from the cause selection modal.

4) After the customer selects a cause and if they choose to confirm the donation amount and the cause selection, they can click Confirm.

 

Selecting a Cause with a Default and No Search Option

1) The customer will select the points they wish to redeem.

2) The customer will immediately be taken to the confirmation screen to confirm the donation amount and the selected nonprofit/cause.

3) Since the search option is turned off, the customer will not be able to update the cause selection.

FAQs

Q: Why isn't Donation Multiplier working with Redeem Points?

A: With the ShoppingGives app, you have the ability to set a multiplier on specific causes. When using the Yotpo integration, any multiplier that you have set will not be applied when a customer chooses to redeem their points for a donation. The multiplier will however be applied as usual when a Yotpo shopper is shopping and earning reward points on purchases.

 

Q: If a Customer Makes a Donation with Points, Do I Get Charged Any Fees?
A:
 When a customer redeems points for a donation, your store will not be charged any fees on that order. Additionally, to utilize this integration, your store must be on our Impact Plus or higher plan or have purchased this feature through our a la carte options.

 

Q: If a Customer Redeems Points for a Donation, Can They Pick a Different Cause from the One I have Set?
A:
 If you have a default cause set, your customer can update the cause with their own selection. However, if you have a default cause set with the search option turned off, your customers cannot select a new cause.

 

Q: If a Customer Redeems Points for a Donation, Does My Store still Make a Donation?
A: If a customer chooses to redeem their points for a donation, the store will not be charged on that donation.

 

Q: If a Customer Redeems Points for a Donation, Who Gets the Tax Receipt?
A:
 With the ShoppingGives x Yotpo integration, your store is eligible to receive a tax receipt at the end of the year for the donations that your store has created.

When your customers redeem their points to create a donation, they will not receive a tax receipt. Additionally, if your store enables customers to add-on their own donation, your store will not receive the tax receipt as the customer is the one pledging the donation.
